The Ceau, Cinema! Trophy, in memory of director Răzvan Georgescu

The Trophy of the Ceau, Cinema! Festival Competition from Timișoara will be dedicated, as from this year, to the memory of the late director Răzvan Georgescu. Starting with the fifth edition of the festival, the award for the best film will be named the Ceau, Cinema! Trophy „Răzvan Georgescu”, in memory of the well-known documentary director. He passed away on July 24th, 2017, at the age of 51, in Germany, his country of residence since 1989, when he left Timișoara. In 2015, on the second edition of the festival, the renovated cinema theater from Gottlob (Timiș county), was inaugurated with the documentary „Trading Germans” (2014), in the presence of Răzvan Georgescu, one of the closest friends and supporters of the festival. The director came back at Ceau, Cinema! in 2016, as a member of the competition section jury. Over 2500 spectators at the 4th edition of Ceau, Cinema!

Over 2.500 spectators took part in almost 30 film screenings at the 4th edition of Ceau, Cinema! Festival, which took place between 20 and 23 July in Timisoara and Gottlob The Ceau Cinema! 2017 Trophy, worth of 1.500 EUR, was awarded to the film „Mister Universo” (Austria-Italy), directed by Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel. The award was granted by the jury formed by the producer Anamaria Antoci, the actor Alexandru Potocean and film critic Catalin Olaru, who evaluated all six films from the competition. The Audience Award worth of 500 EUR, offered by Kathrein Romania, was established by popular vote of the spectators and it was granted to Bulgarian film ”Gloria” (”Slava”), directed by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov. The Vitas Romania Award for independent or debut film, worth of 1.000 EUR, was granted to Italian production ”Pawn Street” (”Le ultime cose”), the debut film of young director Irene Dionisio. The film „Marița”, the feature debut of director Cristi Iftime, will be screened in premiere for Romania in the closing gala of Ceau, Cinema! Six daring films compete for the Grand Award and for the Audience Award on the fourth edition of Ceau, Cinema! Film Festival, which will take place on July 20th – 23rd in Timişoara and Gottlob. The jury comprising the producer Anamaria Antoci, the actor Alexandru Potocean and the film critic Cătălin Olaru will assign the winner of the Ceau, Cinema! „Planet Petrila” will open Ceau, Cinema! Festival

One of this year’s most expected Romanian documentaries, „Planet Petrila”, directed by Andrei Dăscălescu, will be screened in premiere in Timişoara in the opening of the fourth edition of Ceau, Cinema! Festival, which will take place on July 20th – 23rd. With its world premiere screened during the famous International Documentary Film Festival from Amsterdam – IDFA, „Planet Petrila” follows Ion Barbu, artist and activist who figths to save the historical buildings of the mine Petrila from being demolished, and the miner Cătălin Cenușă, who tries to transfer his team to another mine. The producer Anamaria Antoci, the actor Alexandru Potocean and the film critic Cătălin Olaru will make up the Competition jury of the fourth edition of Ceau, Cinema! Film Festival, which will take place between 20th – 23rd of July in Timişoara and Gottlob. The three members of the Ceau, Cinema! Competition jury will give the Grand Award, in amount of €1.500. Anamaria Antoci is one of the most popular young producers from Romania, working for ”4 Proof Film”. The first feature film that she produced was ”Illegitimate” („Ilegitim”), directed by Adrian Sitaru. For this film, she received the Young Hopeful Trophy at the 2017 edition of the Gopo Awards. In 2016, Anamaria Antoci produced ”The Fixer” („Fixeur”), a feature film directed by the same Adrian Sitaru, and her first documentary, ”Planet Petrila” („Planeta Petrila”), directed by Andrei Dăscălescu. Ceau, Cinema! Film Festival calls for entries for the 2017 Competition

At its forth edition, Ceau, Cinema! Festival from Timișoara (Romania) announces the call for submission for the International Competition section, dedicated to feature films: either fiction, documentary or animation, produced in 2016 or 2017, from countries with traditional minorities in the Banat region. „Just like every year, we now intend, as well, for the Competition to reflect the most attractive part of the amazing diversity of the European independent cinema, through a selection of fresh, bold and inciting films.
