At its forth edition, Ceau, Cinema! Festival from Timișoara (Romania) announces the call for submission for the International Competition section, dedicated to feature films: either fiction, documentary or animation, produced in 2016 or 2017, from countries with traditional minorities in the Banat region.
„Just like every year, we now intend, as well, for the Competition to reflect the most attractive part of the amazing diversity of the European independent cinema, through a selection of fresh, bold and inciting films. As a validation of the Competition importance and success, this year we managed to raise the value of the awards”, said the organizers.
Ceau, Cinema! Competition provides a setting for the cinematographic expression of the filmmakers whose countries have been locally represented by minorities (Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Israel, Italy, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ucraine, Hungary). In case of co-productions, there will only be accepted the films whose main co-producer comes from one of the above listed countries. The Competition curator is the film critic Ionuț Mareș.
Ceau, Cinema! Competition Grand Award, selected by a jury which brings together three cinema personalities, shall amount €1.500 and shall be given to the director of the winning film. The Audience Award, of €500, shall be, as well, given to a film submitted in the Competition section.
Like in the 2016 edition, this year the Vitas Trophy for Independent or First/Second Film will also be granted, amounting €1.000. The films in all the festival sections shall be eligible for this award, which will be given to one film selected by the Ceau, Cinema! Team and Vitas Romania.
The producers/distributors must fill in the submission form, which is available on ceaucinema.ro, send a link/screener and a synopsis of the film at email@example.com or send a had copy of the film, together with the synopsis, at the following address: Asociația Pelicula Culturală, 10-16 Take Ionescu St., entrance A, 6th floor, Ap. 20/A Timișoara, 300070, Romania.
The submission deadline is May 1st, 2017!
In 2016, the Competition Grand Award went to Croatian feature film ”Life is a Trumpet”, directed by Antonio Nuić. The Audience Award was given to ”These Daughters of Mine”, of the Polish director Kinga Debska. The jury of the 2016 Competition was made up by the actors Alina Ilea and Alexandru Papadopol and the director Răzvan Georgescu.
The Vitas Romania Trophy for Debut or Independent Film was divided between the independent comedy ”Two Lottery Tickets”, by Paul Negoescu, which opened the festival, and the debut short film „Libelula”, of the young film makers Mimi Sălăjan and Adelina Bulibașa, screened in the section „Films from Banat”.
The fourth edition of the Ceau, Cinema! Festival will take place during July 20th-23rd, in Timișoara and Gottlob (the first village in Romania with a renovated cinema) and will host an attractive and diversified program, with screenings (in cinemas and alternative screening spots), debates, workshops and outdoor events.
