How to Submit


Which are the submission deadlines and what are the fees?

The deadline for subscribing the films into the competition is 1st of May, 2017.

There is no fee for this year’s competition.

 

In case the film is selected, the promotional materials (listed below) need to be sent until June 25, 2017 via email to festival@ceaucinema.ro

 

  • Dialogue list in English and/or Romanian in a format which includes the timecode of the film (.srt, .stl, .sub, .ssaetc). .pdf or .xls files are not accepted.

 

  • 5 film photostills (high quality resolution, jpeg format)
  • Film Poster (high quality resolution, jpeg/pdf format)
  • Biography and filmography of the director
  • Photos of the director and main actors.

We encourage you to submit as early as possible!

 

What are the festival program categories and eligibility requirements?

Ceau, Cinema Festival’s competition is a general competition, with no specific categories included.

The eligibility requirements for the film subscribed in the competition are:

  • to be feature films
  • to come from the specified countries: Romania, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Israel, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland, Turkey, Russia, Armenia and Republic of Moldova.
  • to be released after January 1st 2016,

 

Within this competition, there will be a Grand Award of a 1500 Euro prize, given to the director of the winning film. An Audience Award will also be awarded, which will consist of 500 Euro and an Independent and Debut Film Award, consisting of 1000 euro.

How do you distinguish short films from feature films?

Films with running times of less than 60 minutes (including credits) are classified as Shorts. Films that are 60 minutes or longer are classified as Features. In this festival we are selecting only feature films.

How do you determine whether a film is considered European (originated in one of the countries listed above) or International?

In almost all cases, this is determined by the primary source of the film’s funding. If 50% or more of the film’s financing came from sources within the specified country, it qualifies as a film from that country. If more than 50% of the film’s financing came from international sources, it qualifies as an International Film. We do reserve the right to make a final judgment call based on a number of other factors, such as the primary shooting location, language(s) spoken in the film and the nationalities of the key members of the film’s cast and crew.

Which formats do you accept for submissions?

We accept films in HD electronic file format either in two disc formats: DVD or Bluray.

Do you accept submissions on vhs or any other format?

No. All films must be submitted either as an HD electronic file or on a standard DVD-R/DVD+R of Bluray disc. For the purposes of reviewing your initial submission, we cannot accept HD-DVD, VHS, Beta, Mini-DV, HD-CAM, 16mm, 35mm or any other format not referenced in item 6 above.

Where do I send my submission?

All submitted films on disc, along with the trailers, should be mailed to us at the following address: Pelicula Culturala Association, Take Ionescu Street, No 10 – 16, Sc. A, 6th Floor, Ap. 20/A Timisoara 300070, Romania.

All the rest of the required materials should be sent through email to festival@ceaucinema.ro

How old can my film be and still qualify for submission?

Any film submitted for 2017 Festival must have been completed in 2016. If your film was completed prior to 2016, it is no longer eligible for submission. If your film’s production took place prior to 2016 but your final cut was not completed until 2016, your film is still eligible.

Am I required to obtain rights clearance for music or other copyrighted material included in my film?

From a legal standpoint, you must clear all copyrighted materials included in your film before you can publicly screen it. However, Ceau, Cinema PFF does not check to ensure that you have obtained clearance for these materials at any point during the application process, nor will we be held responsible for any inclusion of non-cleared materials in your film. It is the sole responsibility of the entity submitting the project to secure permission from the copyright holder of the material in question, whether it is music, stock footage, or any other elements that could violate an existing copyright. Films that are accepted into the Festival must sign a waiver stating that materials used in the film do not violate any existing copyright.

Can you return my DVD to me once you’re done with it?

Yes, if you specify this to the organising team and only if you pay in advance, in the organization’s account, the amount necessary for postal taxes.

Do I need to meet a minimum age requirement in order to submit a film?

No, we encourage filmmakers of all ages to submit their work. However, we do not have any separate categories or programs specifically related to young or student filmmakers. All submitted films will compete against each other. If you are under the age of 18 and your film is accepted, we will require signed, written permission from your parent or legal guardian before we are able to screen your film.

How many films may I submit?

You may submit as many films as you like. Upon doing so, you may fill out individual applications for multiple films. Please do not submit multiple projects on the same disc. If we receive a submission with multiple films on one disc, we will only consider the first film included.

Can I make trailers, clips, and/or scenes of my film available online?

Yes. Posting minimal footage or scenes from your film on the Internet does not affect its eligibility for any submission category. It is also acceptable for cast and crew to use scenes from your film for the purposes of an exhibition reel.

Do the organizers cover any expenses for my participation to the Festival?

The organizers do not cover any expenses regarding travel or accommodation of the participants to the festival. But they will give you all the support to find the best solutions for your budget in order to attend the festival!

When will I find out whether or not my film was selected?

We will contact you via e-mail on June 15, 2017. Please make sure that the e-mail address you provided on your application will be operational at that time. We will not be held responsible for any failed delivery of notification! If you haven’t heard from us by June 20, please contact us at festival@ceaucinema.ro for an official notification.

When does the 2017 Ceau, Cinema Festival take place?

The Festival will take place in Timisoara, Timis County, Romania, between July 20th – 22nd 2017 and in Gottlob, Timis county, Romania in July 23rd, 2017.
