„Planet Petrila” will open Ceau, Cinema! Festival
One of this year’s most expected Romanian documentaries, „Planet Petrila”, directed by Andrei Dăscălescu, will be screened in premiere in Timişoara in the opening of the fourth edition of Ceau, Cinema! Festival, which will take place on July 20th – 23rd.
With its world premiere screened during the famous International Documentary Film Festival from Amsterdam – IDFA, „Planet Petrila” follows Ion Barbu, artist and activist who figths to save the historical buildings of the mine Petrila from being demolished, and the miner Cătălin Cenușă, who tries to transfer his team to another mine.
The gala screening from July 20th will take place in the presence of the director Andrei Dăscălescu, the cartoonist Ion Barbu, the miner Cătălin Cenușă and the film producer, Anamaria Antoci, also member of the Ceau, Cinema! 2017 jury.
Debut of the director Agnieszka Smoczynska, ”The Lure” („Córki dancingu”), one of the last year’s Polish cinema hits and winner of the Jury Special Prize at Sundance 2016, will also be screened, in premiere for Romania, in a special screening at Ceau, Cinema!
In the `80s Warsaw, two misterious mermaids are adopted by a cabaret. While one of them is searching for human love, the other has less human intentions. An exuberant and electric musical fantasy, presented with the support of the Polish Institute from Bucharest.
The audience of Ceau, Cinema! will also see in Timişoara one of the most appreciated and excentrical Portuguese new films, „John From” (2015), directed by João Nicolau. The screening is made possible with the support of the Embassy of Portugal in Bucharest.
On the last day of the festival, in Gottlob, the first Romanian village with a modern cinema theatre, the audience will have the opportunity to see the greatest success of the recent Swedish cinema, ”A Man Called Ove”. Directed by Hannes Holm, the film received at the beginning of this year two nominations at the Oscars. The screening is supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Bucharest.
The Gottlob cinema will also host, in the presence of the actors, the German-Romanian co-production ”That Trip We Took With Dad” („La drum cu tata” – 2016), the first film of the young director Anca Miruna Lăzărescu.
Like every year, Ceau, Cinema! has also prepared early screenings for children. The young audience will have the opportunity to enjoy ”My Life as a Zucchini” (2016, d. Claude Barras), a Swiss animation nominated at the Golden Globes and Oscars and distributed in Romania by Macondo, and an anniversary handful of czech animations from the famous series of shorts – „Pat & Mat”.
The fourth edition of Ceau, Cinema! Festival will take place on July 20th – 23rd in Timişoara and Gottlob.
Ceau, Cinema! is dedicated to the European cinema and it is organized by the Association „Marele Ecran” and the Association „Pelicula Culturală”.
