Jun 23, 2023 | Episode 10

An exhibition dedicated to the history of Ceau, Cinema! Festival will be open for public at the House of Arts in Timişoara, during July 6th – 16th.

The year 2023 is a special one, as well, for the local film festival, at its 10th edition. The Ceau, Cinema! retrospective will include, in addition to the anniversary exhibition, a book on the history of all the editions so far.

The documentary-exhibition offers a look in the past and behind the scenes of the festival, in the exact place where it began in 2014. At the House of Arts, the public will have the opportunity to enjoy for the first time together posters, art works, photographs, short videos, trophies and unique objects from the last nine years of cinematographic journey.

It is a way to show gratitude to all the visual artists who contributed to the distinctive image of the festival: Alin-Adnan Vasile, Felix Petrescu, Mircea Popescu, Mimi Ciora and the artists from Balamuc, Lucian Popovici, Thé Orion, Sorina (Vazelina) Vasilescu, Răzvan Cornici, Alexandru Săvescu, Amandine Bănescu, Levente Benedek, Lucian Muntean, Dan Ungureanu, joined, with two special drawings, by Ion Barbu and Dan Perjovschi.

„As a film is a sequence of frames, in the same way the film of Ceau, Cinema! existence is represented precisely by these posters and visuals that inspired and accompanied the festival along the way. Each work from the exhibition tells a particular story, pondering, on the one hand, on the festival’s diversity and energy, and on the other hand, on the participants’ passion”, says the artist and curator Mimi Ciora, who guided the exhibition preparation process.

The ten days will include guided tours with artists and members of the festival team, to show the working process from a first idea to the official poster. The exhibition, coordinated by Lucian Mircu, one of the festival founding members, will be open for public at the House of Arts (8 Episcop Augustin Pacha St.), on a daily basis, between 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. The entrance is free.

A similar form of gratitude for the community of cinema goers in the middle of which the festival has grown, is also the publication printed on the occasion of the 10th edition. The book, entitled Making of Ceau, Cinema!, is a visual and narrative review seen through the eyes of the organizers, partners, guests and loyal audience. It can also be read as a slice of history of the independent culture, especially of the passion for cinema, in Timişoara, in the last 15 years.

The anniversary exhibition is organized by the Associations Marele Ecran and Pelicula Culturală.

With the support of: Vitas Romania, Groupama Insurance, the County Direction for Culture Timiş, Oskar Foto, Atelier Print.
