The film „Marița”, the feature debut of director Cristi Iftime, will be screened in premiere for Romania in the closing gala of Ceau, Cinema! Film Festival fourth edition, which will take place on July 20th – 23rd in Timişoara and Gottlob.
At its first screening in Timişoara and its second in Romania, „Tarzan’s Testicles”, the latest documentary of the well-known director Alexandru Solomon, will also be screened at Ceau, Cinema!
Recently included in the „East of the West” competition section of Karlovy Vary Film Festival, where it won the FEDEORA Jury Award, „Marița” focuses on the young Costi (Alexandru Potocean). Sated with his own couple affairs, he suddenly misses his father’s (Adrian Titieni) stories. Thus, he decides to pay him a visit and take him for the holidays to his mother and brothers, although any of them have wanted it before.
The screening from July 22nd will take place in presence of the film producer, Ada Solomon, and of the leading character, the actor Alexandru Potocean, member of the Ceau, Cinema! jury.
The story of „Tarzan’s Testicles”, recently presented at Karlovy Vary as well, takes place in Suhum, Abkhazia’s capital, a small republic officially unacknowledged, situated on the Oriental shore of the Black Sea. On a hill above the city spreads the garden of a monkey research medical institute, founded by the Soviets in the ‘20s. The legend says that it was designed in order to create a hybrid between man and monkey.
The creature has never been conceived, nor was the New Man of Communism born. Nowadays, men and monkeys are captive in a land torn by war and decades of cruelty, both of them being the victims of a series of unsuccessful experiments.
The after-screening Q&A will be attended by two of this year’s special guests, the director Alexandru Solomon and the producer Ada Solomon.
In partnership with One World Romania, Ceau, Cinema! will also screen two of the most popular documentaries from the last edition of the famous festival from Bucharest.
With several awards at international festivals, ”Normal Autistic Film” (2016), of the Czech director Miroslav Janek, explores the worlds of five children diagnosed with autism in various forms and stages.
Realized by Christian Krönes, Olaf S. Müller, Roland Schrotthofer and Florian Weigensamer, ”A German Life” (2016), an Austrian-German co-production, is based on a black-and-white touching interview with Brunhilde Pomsel, former secretary of Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi propaganda minister. The screening is made possible with the support of the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Timişoara.
The fourth edition of Ceau, Cinema! Film festival will take place on July 20th -23rd in Timişoara and Gottlob, the first Romanian village with a modern cinema theater.
