Jul 25, 2018 | Episode 5

The Bulgarian film „3/4”, made by the young director Ilian Metev, was selected by the jury as the winner of „Răzvan Georgescu” award for the best film in competition at the fifth edition of the festival Ceau, Cinema!, which took place during July 19th – 22nd in Timișoara and Gottlob and which summed over 3.000 viewers.

The jury made of actress Alina Grigore, the film critic Ileana Bîrsan and the director Florin Iepan decided that the Ceau, Cinema! Award „Răzvan Georgescu” go to the production „3/4”, the fiction debut of the Bulgarian director Ilian Metev. The award amounts €1.500 and it is granted by the festival.

The jury explained their option through ”the courage and credibility that the director and the actors use to make us witness the deconstruction of a relation between a father and his sons, their individual detachment from the family and turn their mother’s absence into a subtle, but defining presence and a source of emotions, without falling into sentimentalism”.

The Audience Award, amounting €500 and granted by Casa Auto Timișoara, was divided between two films, equally preferred by the viewers: „Falling”, of the Ukrainian director Marina Stepanska, and „Comic Sans”, of the Croatian director Nevio Marasovic.

„Falling” was also selected the winner of the Vitas Romania Award for independent or debut film. In value of €1.000, the award winner was selected by Ceau, Cinema! team together with Vitas Romania.

An honorary award from the festival was given to the reputed filmmaker Andrei Ujică, the special guest of this year’s edition. Andrei Ujică held an extremely appreciated masterclass and attended the discussions after each of the three screenings within the dedicated review: „Videograms of a Revolution”, „The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceaușescu” and „Out of the Present”, the latter being screened at the „Capitol” Outdoor Movie Theater, during the closing gala.

A very high level of interest was raised by the other two screenings at the „Capitol” Outdoor Movie Theater: the comedy „The Story of a Summer Lover”, which was showed during the opening gala in the presence of the director Paul Negoescu and the director of photography Ana Drăghici, and the documentary „The Trial”, in the presence of the directors Claudiu Mitcu and Ileana Bîrsan, the protagonist Mihai Moldoveanu and his lawyer Alina Cojocaru, who discussed with the audience for more than one hour.

Very popular to the audience were the six films in competition, the Serbian production „Afterparty”, screened in the presence of several members of the team, „W.R. – Mysteries of the Organism”, by Dušan Makavejev, „The Guilty”, by Gustav Möller, the documentaries „The Free Dacians”, by Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan and Andrei Gorgan, „Visages, villages”, by Agnès Varda and JR, and „Convictions”, in the presence of the director Tatiana Chistova.

Two special moments were the screening of the documentary „Testimony” and of a new video interview, as a tribute to the late director Răzvan Georgescu, the focus on Florin Iepan, as well as the anniversary screening of „Reconstruction”, in Gottlob, in the presence of a surprise-guest – Emil Mateiaș, the witness of the event which inspired Horia Pătrașcu’s short story, based on which Lucian Pintilie had realized his masterpiece.
