The latest film of the great Polish director Andrzej Wajda, “Afterimage”, and the winner of the Golden Bear at this year’s edition of Berlin Film Festival, “On Body and Soul”, of the Hungarian film maker Ildikó Enyedi, rank among the attractions of the fourth edition of Ceau, Cinema! Film Festival, which will take place on July 20th -23rd in Timişoara and Gottlob.
Moreover, Ceau, Cinema! will organize a special event dedicated to the 120 years’ anniversary of the first film screenings in Timişoara, it will mark 10 years since the Palme d`Or won by Cristian Mungiu at Cannes with “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days”, also paying homage to the legendary Swedish film maker Ingmar Bergman, with a screening of the documentary about him.
“Afterimage” (2016), Andrzej Wajda’s latest film, will have a special screening at Ceau, Cinema!, in memory of the great Polish director, gone in 2016. The film is focused on the touching story of the talented painter Władysław Strzemińsk, who opposed the socialist realism and succeded to preserve his artistic freedom, despite the numerous obstacles that he had faced. The screening is possible with the support of the Polish Institute from Bucharest.
One of the most awaited films in 2017, “On Body and Soul“, of the Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi, winner of the Golder Bear at Berlin this year, will also be screened within Ceau, Cinema!. “On Body and Soul” is an atypical love story, between two introverts who discover, by mistake, that they have the same strange dream each night. The screening is organized with the support of the film distributor in Romania, Bad Unicorn.
In 2017 we celebrate 120 years since the first film screenings in Timişoara. To mark this anniversary, Ceau, Cinema! will screen the documentary “The Manakia Brothers. The Diary of a Long Look Back” (2016), in the presence of the young film maker Eliza Zdru. The documentary is a video diary of the director’s journey on the track of the Manakia brothers, cinema pioneers from the Balkans.
10 years after the attainment of the famous Palme d’Or at Cannes Festival, Ceau, Cinema! invites the audience to an anniversary screening, in Gottlob, of “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days“, directed by Cristian Mungiu. The cast includes the actors Anamaria Marinca, Laura Vasiliu, Vlad Ivanov and Alexandru Potocean, who is member of this year’s Ceau, Cinema! jury.
On July 30th 2017, we also commemorate 10 years from the disappearance of the legendary Swedish film maker Ingmar Bergman. To mark this special moment, Ceau, Cinema! will schedule, in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Romania, the screening of the documentary “Trespassing Bergman” (2013), made by Jane Magnusson and Hynek Pallas. In this film, several actors and directors, like Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola, Robert De Niro, Michael Haneke, Martin Scorsese or Lars von Trier, speak about the artistic and spiritual heritage left by Ingmar Bergman.
The fourth edition of Ceau, Cinema! will take place on July 20th – 23rd in Timişoara and Gottlob, the first Romanian village with a modern cinema theatre.
Ceau, Cinema! is dedicated to the European cinema and it is organized by the Association „Marele Ecran” and the Association „Pelicula Culturală”.
