Female voices in the Romanian and Hungarian cinema, at Ceau, Cinema! Festival

Jun 28, 2022 | Episode 9

Two of the last year’s most appreciated films, made by Romanian and Hungarian directors, as well as a dialogue on the new female voices in cinema will be part of a special section in the ninth edition of Ceau, Cinema! Festival, which will take place during July 14th-17th in Timişoara.

The audience will enjoy the screening of “Blue Moon” (2021, Romania), the debut of Alina Grigore as a director, and “Things Worth Weeping For” (2021, Hungary), the first feature film of the Romanian-Hungarian director Cristina Groşan. This section is supported by Conceptual Lab by Theo Nissim.

“Blue Moon” is focused on a young woman struggling to apply for university studies and get away from the male violence in her disfunctional family. Last year, the film won the Golden Shell, the highest prize at San Sebastian Festival.

“Things Worth Weeping For” is a dramedy about the desperate attempts of a young woman aged 30 to come into line with the world of adults. The film had its world premiere in the competition of Sarajevo Festival.

Alina Grigore, Cristina Groşan and actress Judith State, who will show at Ceau, Cinema! her latest film, “R.M.N.” (2022, d. Cristian Mungiu), will also attend a dialogue on the new female voices in cinema.

“I am glad that we support Ceau, Cinema! for this ninth edition and the female voices from Romanian and European cinema. The last year kept bringing into attention, at an international level, more and more female directors and their bold stories, therefore we welcome the presence of such section in this year’s festival selection”, says Theo Nissim, the founder of Conceptual Lab.

The screenings of the ninth edition of Ceau, Cinema! will take place at Cinema Victoria, the Outdoor Theater and Capitol cinema hall from Banat Philarmonic, Traian Square and Faber.
