At its third edition, Ceau, Cinema! Festival from Timișoara, Romania, announces the call for entry to the international competition section dedicated to feature films (fiction, non-fiction or animation). The call is open for films premiered in 2015 or 2016 by filmmakers from countries which have or have had minorities in the Banat region throughout the history.
“We have created this interethnic competition section to reflect the multicultural perspective of the Banat region and the diversity of European cinema, through a colorful, attractive and mostly challenging film cocktail. This year, we also have a special award for independent or debut film, thus offering a launching ramp for young talents”, said the organizers.
Ceau, Cinema! Competition provides a setting for the cinematographic expression of filmmakers from the countries which have or have had traditional minorities in the Banat region throughout the history (Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine, Hungary). In case of co-productions, there will only be accepted films with their main co-producer coming from a country listed above.The curator of the competition is the journalist and film critic Ionuț Mareș.
The Grand Award of Ceau Cinema! Competition, in value of 1,000 euro, is awarded by the jury formed by three personalities from the film industry, to the film director. There will also be an Audience Award, in value of 500 euro.
Within the 2016 edition of the festival, there will also be an Independent and Debut Film Award, in value of 500 euro, for which all films from all sections of the festival are eligible.
The producer or distributor who owns the screening rights of the film must fill in the online entry form no later than 1st of May, 2016. Either they include a link to a screener in the entry form, or they must send a hard-copy of the film (DVD or BluRay) to the following address: Pelicula Culturala Association, Take Ionescu Street, No 10 – 16, Sc. The Grand Award of last year’s competition was won by Wojchiech Smarzowski’s film – “The Mighty Angel” (Poland). The Audience Award was won by the debut feature film of Virag Zomboracz – “Afterlife” (Hungary). The competition also hosted films of great directors such as Gyorgy Palfi and Nadav Lapid.
The third edition of Ceau, Cinema! will take place between July 14th – 17th, 2016, in Timisoara and Gottlob (the first village in Romania with a renovated movie theater), offering an attractive and diverse program, which will include numerous screenings (in cinemas and alternative spaces of screening), debates, workshops and outdoor events.

Ceau, Cinema! Film Festival is organized by the Associations Marele Ecran and Pelicula Culturala. It is the first film festival dedicated to the European film in Timișoara. The event is entirely carried out by volunteers.
